Five Pillars of Oracle

The Oracle Honor Society is founded upon the symbol of the star. The five points represent the attributes of excellence for which members of Oracle aspire. Each year, the Oracle Coordinating Board selects five quotes that exemplify these attributes:

Scholarship: “Learning is not attained by chance; it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence” -Abigail Adams The oracle board chose this quote to emphasize the spirit of scholarship. Education and learning are a lifelong process that goes beyond formal education.

Leadership: “A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” – Rosalynn Carter This quote teaches us that being a leader is something greater than yourself. Leadership is not about power, but rather passing your skills and knowledge onto others

Loyalty: “I belong to the people I love, and they belong to me—they and the love and loyalty I give them, form my identity far more than any word or group ever could.” -Veronica Roth, Allegiant Loyalty is essential to every relationship we have in life, including family and friendships. A loyal person shows their commitment, even in their education when things get difficult.

Service: “At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you have accomplished… It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.”-Denzel Washington This quote shows us that service does not only serve the purpose of helping people in need; it also contributes to our own personal development as citizens of a community

Character: “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” -Maya Angelou This quote is about the ability to problem solve and come up with solutions. College is not just about obtaining information, but your growth as an individual.

The laurel wreath around the star represents the achievements of Oracle members. The wall represents the courage and fortitude shown in order to achieve the ideals of the society, and the light is a beacon for Oracle members in the future. The olive branch is the emblem of peace -- the talisman for all Oracle members.
