Nancy Cornwell, professor of television-radio
Public-access television serves a purpose to local communities, reports the Pittsburgh City Paper. The freedom it gives community members to produce their own content is one of the strengths of the medium. According to Cornwell, who was asked to comment, public-access television is "the closest we get to the community soapbox,” and has advantages over the Internet in that users can more directly target people in their own community.
