Community Invited to Ithaca College Celebration of Veterans Day
ITHACA, NY — Members of the community are invited to join in honoring our nation’s veterans at Ithaca College’s annual Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 7. The one-hour program begins at noon in Ford Hall in the Whalen Center.
The master of ceremonies will be Art Ostrander, retired dean of the School of Music, and the celebration will feature a presentation of the colors by the Ithaca College/Cornell University ROTC Color Guard and musical performances by the Ithaca College Brass Choir and IC VoICes. Retired U.S. Navy SEAL Frederick Keener will deliver the keynote address.
Keener enlisted in the Navy in 1965, and after completing underwater training he was assigned to NASA’s Gemini VII recovery team. In 1966 he was transferred to SEAL Team 2 and began six months of jungle warfare training, eventually making four deployments to Vietnam.
Throughout his enlistment, Keener cross-trained with foreign counterparts around the world. He served as operations officer for Special Boat Unit 24 and then assistant operations officer for Naval Special Warfare Group 2, located at the Naval Amphibious Base in Little Creek, Virginia. He retired with the rank of lieutenant in 1987.
The celebration is sponsored by the IC Veterans Day Committee, School of Music and Division of Finance and Administration. For more information, visit www.ithaca.edu/veterans or contact Sue DuBrava at (607) 274-3620 or email@example.com.
