Former Marvel Comics Editor to Speak at Ithaca College

ITHACA, NY—Carl Potts, a former executive editor of Marvel Comics, will discuss the art of visual storytelling in a master class at Ithaca College on Tuesday, Oct. 1. His 6 p.m. presentation in Park Hall Auditorium is free and open to the public.

Potts is perhaps best known for creating “Alien Legion,” the longest-running original Marvel Comics/Epic Comics original title; and “Last of the Dragons,” currently in development as a television miniseries. He oversaw the development of “The Punisher” from guest star to franchise character, and edited such titles as “The Incredible Hulk,” “Doctor Strange” and “The Defenders.”

Potts earned his degree in commercial art and started his career as a freelance artist/writer. He produced illustrations for magazines and books for several years before joining Marvel’s editorial staff in 1983, ultimately serving for 13 years as executive editor. He has also held various creative lead positions in publishing, entertainment, marketing, interactive media and education.

His presentation coincides with the release of his book, “The DC Comics Guide to Creating Comics: Inside the Art of Visual Storytelling,” which serves as a resource by presenting key principles and techniques for crafting exciting, professional-quality comics.
