Ithaca College to Screen Documentaries on ‘Whistleblowers’ and ‘Drone Wars’

ITHACA, NY — The Park Center for Independent Media at Ithaca College will host a free double-feature screening of new documentaries by Brave New Films on Friday, November 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Park Hall Auditorium.

Ithaca audiences will be among the first to see the just-released “Unmanned: America’s Drone Wars,” while “War on Whistleblowers: Free Press and the National Security State” has been earning critical praise since it came out in April.

The showings will be followed by a Q&A with Jim Miller, a 1985 Ithaca College graduate who serves as executive director of Brave New Films. Founded by filmmaker Robert Greenwald, the nonprofit outlet marries digital storytelling and new media technologies to engage networks of people that advocate for change. Miller is responsible for legal affairs, fundraising and finances as well as building audiences and coalitions. Brave New Films raises most of its money through donations and fundraising.

Pioneering free online distribution, Greenwald and Brave New Films have made such hard-hitting documentaries as “OutFoxed: Rupert Murdoch’s War on Journalism,” “Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers” and “WalMart: The High Cost of Low Price.” Their hundreds of short videos exposing government and corporate malfeasance have had millions of viewers and inspire grassroots campaigns for social justice and political reform.

Based in the Roy H. Park School of Communications, the Park Center for Independent Media was launched in 2008 as a national center for the study of media outlets that create and distribute content outside traditional corporate systems.
