Plan Your Future at the Senior Living Expo in Ithaca on Saturday, April 18

ITHACA, NY — Are you an older adult who is wondering whether to move out of your current home, but aren’t sure what the next step might be? Are you an adult child who wants to help your parents stay at home but need to know what services are available to do so?

If you’ve been asking these questions, then come to the Senior Living Expo on Saturday, April 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ithaca High School cafeteria. The Expo will feature over 30 exhibitors from senior housing and service providers, as well as speakers about types of housing and services available. This free event is sponsored by the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute and the Tompkins County Office for the Aging.

“Individuals and families have a lot of questions about options available for older adults in our community,” said Lisa Holmes, director of the Office for the Aging. “The Senior Living Expo will provide a unique opportunity to have the range of Tompkins County’s housing and service providers on hand displaying their information and answering questions, all under one roof.”

Rhoda Meador, director of the Ithaca College Gerontology Institute, agrees with Holmes.

“We’ve grown increasingly aware of the critical need for people to better understand their options so that they can plan ahead,” Meador said. “We’re delighted to partner with the Office for the Aging on this important event.”

Representatives from independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, continuing care retirement community facilities, home care and other service providers will be available.

Visitors to the expo can also enjoy two short presentations:

  • David Stoyell, aging services specialist at the Office for the Aging, will discuss “Senior Housing Options” at 1:15 p.m. and again at 2:15 p.m.
  • Lisa Holmes, director of the Office for the Aging, will present “Community Services for Aging in Place” at 1:30 p.m. and again at 2:30 p.m.
