Graduate Council

The Graduate Council determines and recommends to the provost and vice president for educational affairs policies and procedures in the general administration and conduct of the graduate program, including approval of the members of the graduate faculty. The council is responsible for reviewing and recommending curricula, determining the eligibility of candidates for degrees, and prescribing the conditions on which degrees are awarded. 

Curricular Submission Deadlines and Meeting Dates

The Graduate Council meets on the first Monday of the month from 3:00-4:30 PM via Zoom unless otherwise noted. 

  • Proposals for all new and substantially revised programs must be received by the Graduate Council by November 1 to assure timely submission for review by the New York State Education Department.
  • All other proposals received by March 1 are guaranteed to be reviewed/considered by Graduate Council before the end of the academic year. Submission by March 1 will secure inclusion in the 2022-2023 Graduate Catalog.
  • Proposals must be reviewed and vetted by the Graduate Curricular Subcommittee (GCS) prior to full Graduate Council review.

February 1 – May 1, 2022  Graduate catalog edits to be completed. Grad catalog should reflect ONLY information that is key for students to: 1) admit to the program; 2) stay in the program; or 3) graduate from the program. Avoid specific language that may change throughout the year.
