What is a Student Leadership Consultant?

Student Leadership Consultants (SLCs) are our student employees in OSE. SLCs are an amazing team of students who help our office run smoothly and provide the best programs we can offer. SLCs are also available every weekday to answer any questions you have. Meet the SLCS!

Student Organizations

Are student organizations active this semester?

Absolutely! The Office of Student Engagement recognizes around 200 student organizations annually and this year is no different. We encourage students who are interested in joining a club to explore IC Engage, as every organization has their own profile where you can message the organization directly to find out more about it.  

Is it possible to start a new student organization?

Yes! Our New Student Organization Recognition Team is here to help. Send an e-mail to ose@ithaca.edu to set up a meeting with the NSOR team to get the process started.  

Where can student organizations find support during this remote time?

The Student Organization Specialist team is available to assist student organizations with anything they need! Whether it’s questions about the re-recognition process, managing their roster or want to brainstorm online programming ideas, the team is here to help! Students can e-mail studentorgs@ithaca.edu with any student organization related questions.

Will funding be available this semester for online programming for recognized student organizations?

Yes, the Student Governance Council Appropriations Committee will be accepting funding requests this semester. Click here to access the Student Governance Council’s website

Can student organizations spend their funding this semester?

Yes! Student organizations can review how to go about paying a contract/invoice, requesting a reimbursement, and purchasing supplies, including gift cards and more by clicking here.  

Can student organizations deposit funds into their account this semester?

Yes! Information of how student organizations can deposit funds can be found here.  

Can student organizations fundraise this semester?

Absolutely. Student organizations can find the Ithaca College tax-id number and crowd sourcing request policy (such as using venmo, paypal, etc.) by clicking here.  

Student Leadership Institute

Need SLI Credit?

In order to receive full SLI credit, students must participate in live or asynchronous workshops upon the selected event of your choice. Student Leadership Consultants will be present at each workshop to take attendance upon your arrival. In addition, the SLI Team will provide those who have successfully participated and attended workshops credit by the end of the business week. 

How can students register for Student Leadership Institute workshops?

All SLI workshops are posted on IC Engage and you can register using that site. SLI's are boldly labeled indicating specific workshops approved by SLI under the four tracks (Leading Self, Leading Others, Leading in a Diverse World, and Leading @ IC). 

Registration to workshops will close 24 hours prior to each event and students will receive a notice from leadership@ithaca.edu from the SLI Team. 

How will students know about workshops?

Every Friday afternoon, students will receive an email with a weekly newsletter from IC Enagage. The Office of Student Engagement will also post Intercom articles with dates and you can also check the IC Events Calendar. The IC Events Calendar will list all of the SLI workshops for the semester.  

Can students earn a SLI Certificate?

Yes, students who complete a total of 6 consecutive workshops within 1 SLI track can send in a request for an SLI Certificate. Students who want to request a certificate can log onto IC Engage, Student Leadership Institute, Forms, and SLI Certificate Request Form

Leadership Programs

How do students join the Leadership Scholar Program?

New, prospective students apply to be part of the Leadership Scholar Program at the time of their admission to IC. This is a four-year program where students progress through stages of leadership development, so the program is not available to current IC students. However, all IC students are welcome to participate in the Student Leadership Institute, be actively involved in campus clubs or community service, and can meet with a Student Leadership Consultant to develop a personalized leadership development plan for their IC experience! 

Will there be leadership retreats offered this year?

Since the college is on remote instruction during the fall semester, we are offering two special leadership opportunities for students, in addition to the Student Leadership Institute. On Saturday, October 17 there will be a Leadership Summit for current student leaders at IC. In November, there will be a Social Action Leadership Series offered on Thursday afternoons. We will have more information about our spring retreats as soon as the IC plans for spring are announced.  

Community Service

How do students keep up to date on volunteer opportunities?

Will there be opportunities to do community service?

While the Office of Student Engagement is unable to host any Alternative Break or Service Saturday programs this year, we encourage students to continue their service efforts locally in their own communities! Click here to visit our virtual volunteering page for more resources.
