Interest in internship placements abroad is becoming popular amongst the Ithaca College student population. It comes at a time when job competition is fierce and students know that work experience abroad will give them an advantage in the job market.
While the decision to approve an internship continues to rest with the academic department conferring internship credit, the College seeks to ensure that overseas placements sponsored by Schools and departments across the College have been consistently reviewed. In addition, the OIP needs to be informed of where students are abroad while they are earning Ithaca College credit. The Internships Abroad Approval Form and the "Know Before You Go" resource will guide the process for reviewing overseas placements that are not a formal component of an approved affiliate program offering. Each faculty sponsor of a student internship abroad is asked to use these forms when considering prospective placements abroad.
Once these forms are complete, please ask the student you are sponsoring to schedule a time to meet with a study abroad adviser so he or she may continue with the final steps of formally registering his or her travel with the College. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of International Programs and Extended Studies at 607-274-3306.
