NBC Sports once again recruited students from the Park School of Communications to take part in their Olympics intern program. This time around, however, they also recruited students to work at its New York City studios in addition to the students who will intern at the actual Olympics site.
These nonpaid internships focus on the behind-the-scenes work of NBC Sports executives and the decisions they make that impact every aspect of what gets televised. Students will live in New York for two months this summer, taking part in the unprecedented television coverage of the Olympic Games.
During the fall semester, students filled out a two-page application and were then interviewed on campus by NBC personnel. Just before winter break, they were notified with the decision. Nearly 150 students applied and more than 85 were interviewed before the final 12 for New York were chosen. In addition to the students going to New York, 11 other Park students will work for NBC in Beijing.
For the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, Italy, 13 Park students were chosen for the NBC intern program.
