Family and Supporter Orientation

Ithaca College offers an optional (and free!) Family and Supporter Orientation. This year we will hold this program virtually throughout the months of June, July, and August.

Rachel Gould, senior director of study abroad, and Eric Howd, director of extended studies, discuss and answer questions about different study abroad and extended study experiences that your student can take part in during their Ithaca College experience.

Office of Student Engagement Recording 

Michele Lenhart, the director of student engagement, will be joined by student leaders to discuss the benefits of joining a student organization on campus and give information about the Jumpstart program. For more information about this program before the webinar, see the Jumpstart webpage.

Dining Services Recording

Rebecca Sexton, assistant director of marketing for dining services, will discuss the meal plan options and restaurants on campus for your student to enjoy during their time at Ithaca College.

"You Don't Know What You Don't Know" with the Exploratory Program and School of Humanities & Sciences Recording

For many families, sending your student to college for the first time is a major event. Join Amy O’Dowd, associate dean of the School of Humanities & Sciences, and Maria DiFrancesco, director of the Exploratory Program, to discuss your student’s transition from high school to Ithaca College.

"Scheduling Success: First-Semester Scheduling and Transferable Skills" Recording

Elizabeth Bleicher from Student Success and Retention will be explaining how to create a sane and sustainable schedule during your first semester at Ithaca! Students and families/supporters welcome.

Wednesday, 7/13 at 7pm

"Leveraging Your Neurodivergent Super Powers of Time, Attention, and Resilience" Recording

Susan Adams Delaney from Ithaca's Integrative Core Curriculum program will be explaining the basics of time management and executive functioning skills, especially for students and families/supporters who learn better in alternative settings. Students and families/supporters welcome.

Student Accessibility Services Recording

Ian Moore, director, and Valerie Ober, assistive technology specialist from Student Accessibility Services, will discuss the process and answer questions about getting your student different accommodations before they come on campus for their first year.

Campus Recreation Recording

Sean Reilley, associate director, and Lauren Hoffman, program coordinator from Campus Recreation, will discuss the intramural and club sports on campus, as well as the fitness facilities and equipment that students can use during their time at Ithaca.

Career Services Recording

Dave Curry, the director of the Career Services Center, will discuss the ways your student can begin their career exploration journey early at Ithaca College and be prepared to enter the professional workforce. Lori Hulse, associate director from Student Financial Services, will discuss the specifics of accepting your financial package and different payment plans during your student's time at Ithaca.

Elizabeth Bleicher, Dean of Student Success, will share strategies for supporting your students' academic success, shifting your role from parent/guardian to coach, and helping your student develop independence and resilience.

Title IX and Public Safety Recording

Bill Kerry, director of Public Safety, Linda Koenig, Title IX coordinator, and Elyse Nepa, crime prevention coordinator, will discuss the ways your student will be kept safe during their time at Ithaca, and ways to prepare your student for their time on campus.

Join Jodi LaPierre from the Ithaca/Tompkins County Convention & Visitors Bureau to talk about everything you need to know about the Ithaca community! From waterfalls, what hotels to stay in, restaurants in Ithaca's downtown area, and much more, you'll come to find that your student has chosen a very special place to have their college experience.

LGBT Center, Center for IDEAS, First Generation, and Office of Religious and Spiritual Life Recording

Luca Maurer, director of the LGBT Center, Angélica Carrington, director of IDEAS center, Shadayvia Wallace, program director for first-generation students, and Lauren Goldberg, Hillel's executive director, will discuss the ways student's various identities are supported on Ithaca's campus and answer questions about the modules your student needs to complete before coming to campus for orientation. 

Using Zoom for Virtual Orientation

All of our orientation sessions will use Zoom meetings or webinars. We encourage you to download the free Zoom application ahead of time and familiarize yourself with the Zoom platform. Feel free to use our Zoom Support page or reach out to the IT Service Desk during regular business hours at 607-274-1000 or via live chat at ithaca.edu/ITchat with questions.
