First-year Students

1. Complete your registration modules.

  • Log in to Sakai
  • Complete modules related to:
    • the school in which your major is offered; 
    • placement test(s) (see step 2, below, for additional detail about the math placement exam, which you will access from Sakai);
    • the Integrative Core Curriculum (ICC) and your choice of ICC theme;
    • choosing your Ithaca Seminar; and
    • building your fall schedule.

Upon completion of the modules, you’ll receive your Registration Access Code (RAC), which you will use to register for your fall courses in HomerConnect.

2. Take your math placement exam.

  • Review the study guide and sample exam on the mathematics website. Students planning to major in mathematics or the sciences are advised to review trigonometry, logarithms, and exponents.
  • Set aside two hours to take the Mathematics Placement Exam. Once you begin, you must complete the exam.
    • You may use a calculator during this exam. You should also have paper available.
    • You must take this exam at a computer (not on a mobile device) that has access to a high-speed Internet connection. (If this is a problem, notify the Math Department to make alternate arrangements.)
    • If you leave the exam for more than 3 hours, you will be locked out.
    • If you have technical trouble taking the exam, please contact the Information Technology Services service desk at (607) 274-1000.
  • To take the exam, log in to Sakai
  • Click on Placement Testing (in the left-hand navigation).
  • Click "Start Here: Math Placement."
  • When you’ve completed the exam, be sure to click the “Submit” button before you log out of Sakai.
  • Detailed information about each placement group is available on the mathematics website.

3. Register for your fall courses.

Note that you may be registered into some courses already.

Transfer Students

1. Take your math placement exam.

Work individually with the dean's office of the school in which your major is offered to review your transfer credit and complete registration for your fall 2019 courses. See the following for additional details:

School of Health Sciences and Human Performance

  • Your department/major will contact you individually to review transfer credit, provide advising, and complete registration for fall 2019 courses. School of Humanities and Sciences

  • The School of Humanities & Sciences Dean’s Office will contact you to schedule a phone or on-campus appointment with the Assistant Dean of Student Services and/or the chair of your academic department. Initial contact will be made by email during the month of May. Please be sure that all college transcripts have been sent to the Ithaca College Office of the Registrar.

School of Music

  • The School of Music will hold a special on-campus orientation session on Monday, June 17, 2019, for all transfer students. During the session, you will be tested and placed into core music courses, and your specialized semester-by-semester plan will be constructed. Additional testing and schedule adjustment may take place in August prior to the start of the fall semester. Information about the June 17 session and process will be forthcoming via email during the second week of May. Please be sure that all college transcripts have been sent to the Ithaca College Office of the Registrar.
