When is Orientation?
Orientation begins Friday, January 17th at 9am in Emerson Lounge. It will continue until Sunday, January 19th. Students are able to move in to their Spring housing selection on Thursday, January 16th, beginning at 1pm.
Is Orientation required for all students?
Yes. Orientation is a critical first step for all new students in their transition to college. The academic and social environment is very different than what most incoming students are used to, and we want to ensure that each of our IC students are prepared to be successful academically, socially, and personally. Orientation includes opportunities for students to meet their academic advisor, register for courses, meet faculty, learn about key support resources, connect with other students, and navigate life at IC before classes begin.
Why is there a fee for Orientation?
Ithaca College is committed to being good stewards of students’ tuition dollars and being transparent in the costs associated with our required Orientation program. This one-time $85 fee directly supports: multiple events each day designed to meet students’ diverse needs, activities that connect students with the local Ithaca area, organized opportunities for families and guests to engage with current students, faculty, and Orientation Staff (professional and student staff) who support students’ transition to college. If you feel that you might qualify for a fee waiver based on your financial status, we can transfer you to Student Financial Services who will be able to tell you if you qualify for a fee waiver.
What programs are included in orientation?
Academic advising, course registration, college resource information, taste of Ithaca, IC tradition events, exploring downtown, small group conversations, classroom tours, social events, and much more.
What programs do we have for families?
There is an optional family and guest orientation on Friday, January 17th, where families and guests will have the opportunity to meet with reps from your student’s school and major, learn about academics, health, and social support services on campus and ask any questions you may have.
