Documentary Short

Watch a short film by The Ithacan that highlights John Noltner's work at IC and what the project conveys about our office.

Photojournalist John Noltner spent a week with the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life at IC and helped us document our community's story and response to the question: "What is your responsibility to create community?" This project was a part of a larger multimedia installation that uses photography and storytelling to engage diverse communities in the big questions of life. Portraits were revealed at Noltner's public lecture, "The Road to Peace," which lifts up ordinary people's wisdom about hope, transformation, and forgiveness.

This year John led a similar project for IC via online virtual studio sessions with a group of 50 students and staff. During each session he asked participants to reflecting on a new question: “What does community or belonging look like for you during this time of pandemics and protests?

From Spirituality to Activism with Omid Safi

This past November, we were blessed to share an exciting series of conversations on the role of belief in the public sphere. Leading this discussion was Dr. Omid Safi, a Muslim public intellectual deeply committed to the intertwined path of love and justice for all. A professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University, Omid specializes in contemporary Islamic thought and spirituality and has emerged as one of America’s most important Muslim voices.
