Shipping and Storage FAQ

Is there a list of storage/moving companies?

There is a list of companies on the shipping and storage page of our move out website, who provide packing, moving, and/or shipping services. The College does not endorse any specific companies. As such, we encourage students/family members to do some of their own research on these companies and their services.

I have hired a moving company to ship my belongings, but I want to be or I have to be the one to go into my room to pack them up. Is that possible?

Yes. We will help coordinate the move out process with you and the company before you can officially sign up for a time. Once you contact the company, let us know, and we will work to navigate an ideal move out date and time.

Can I leave my belongings in my room or move them to my fall housing assignment?

Unfortunately, no. We need all belongings to be removed from rooms/apartments so that these spaces can be properly cleaned before the start of the fall semester. This includes seniors who lived on campus this spring.

I have been approved to retain my Circles ApartmenT; Can I keep my belongings in the apartment over the summer?

At this moment, yes. However, please be prepared with a plan B on the chance this pandemic continues into the fall semester and impacts housing assignments, which may require a change in room configurations or an earlier move-out. Information about the direction of the retention process will be shared after a direction for the fall semester has been developed.

Can my roommate or someone who lives in Phase 1 pack my stuff for me?

Yes, in the Move Out Registration Form in Engage (which opens, Friday, May 22nd),  you can tell us that someone is packing your belongings for you.  On the form you can also indicate if you need IC to store your packed items or ship them home to you.  After you tell us who is coming in your place, we will send you and that person information about how to sign up for a time slot and how they need to  label your packed items.

Can I insure my items being stored by Ithaca College?

Ithaca College Risk Management arranged for the private insurance provider for students to offer students the opportunity to sign up for personal property insurance for the regular annual term beginning in August, but then receive coverage for the period from now until August for free (beginning five days from purchase).

I can take most of my items home. Can I store just a couple of bulky things that don’t fit in my car?

Yes, on the Move Out Registration form, select that you will be coming to pack, and that you need IC to store your belongings.  Please refer to instructions on how to label the items you want IC to store.  You will leave the labeled items in your room that you would like IC to store, and college movers will move the items to storage after you have left.
