Refrigerators and Microwaves

*** Please note: As of August 2016, Avanti Products discontinued manufacturing AC3 overload amp protectors. Residents who currently have this item can continue use of it when using both a microwave and a mini-fridge in a residence hall room. Residents who do not have an AC3 overload amp protector can either lease a microfridge unit through the Refrigerator Leasing Company OR can bring only a mini-fridge meeting our appliance requirements but not also have a microwave.

One mini-fridge, one combined microfridge unit such as those leased through the Refrigerator Leasing Company, or one mini-fridge/microwave combination using an overload amp protector is allowed per room. Combined mini-fridge/microwave units must be equipped with a power allocator or be plugged into an overload amp protector that limits the total amperage used by both appliances to 10 amps or less. Any damage to the residence hall or its furnishings resulting from a refrigerator, mini-fridge, or combined microfridge unit will be billed to the student(s) responsible for the appliance.

Ithaca College students often find it convenient to rent a microfridge from the Refrigerator Leasing Company that services Ithaca College. It is one way to be certain that the appliance meets Ithaca College's size and electrical standards.

If you choose to bring a microfridge or mini-fridge/microwave combination, be advised that you must show documentation that it meets the specific power, size, and electrical operating specifications published as the Microfridge Checklist by the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.
