Integrated Marketing Communications majors, Paul Shaw ('17), Drew Olkowsk ('16), Kat Fischer ('17) and Claire Farrell ('15) were awarded scholarships in order to attend Social Media Week in NYC. During the four day event they were able to see a number of speakers as well as have the opportunity for plenty of networking. Some of this year's featured speakers included Martha Stewart and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
The global theme for 2015 was "Upwardly Mobile: The Rise of the Connected Class, asking the fundamental question: how can all humans achieve more in a connected world?"
Drew Olkowski- "I recently have returned from social media week with my other classmates, and I have to say it was amazing. There is so much going on in the realm of social media that sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. This past week was a great learning experience."
Kat Fischer-“Social Media Week was a fantastic experience! I would recommend any student interested in media to apply for the Forbes scholarship. This conference contributes a great deal of insight into strategy, technology and innovation, while providing a fantastic networking opportunity. Filled with young professionals, business executives and anyone inspired to learn about social media, you are able to expand your network, while learning about what is new in the industry.”
Claire Farrell- "To say last week was inspiring would be an understatement. I learned so much about tech and social, expanded my mind with the possibilities I have in career paths as an IMC student, and networked my way into a few interviews for jobs after graduating. The whole week has made May feel like more of a beginning than an end. I really would recommend other students applying for this opportunity."
Paul Shaw- "Social media week showed me that social really is the future of advertising and public relations and we are just in the beginning of an amazing period for the communications industry."
