IMC Students Win Prestigious Scholarship

The recipients of the Advertising Women of New York Scholarship Award (AWNY) for the academic year 2012-2013 are Marissa Osowsky '14 and Rachel Heiss '13, students of Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications. Both Rachel and Marissa possess a genuine interest in the advertising industry and have maintained strong academic records. Marissa is currently pursuing a program of study that will lead to a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications with a minor in Theater. Rachel is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications with a minor in International Communications. 

Marissa has been a very active member of Ithaca College's American Advertising Federation (AAF) student chapter, serving as its president and a project manager on several pro bono client accounts. This past summer, Marissa successfully completed an internship at McGarrah Jessee in Austin, Texas, which she was awarded through the AAF Vance Stickell program. She has also been recognized with membership in the Lambda Pi Eta Communications Honor Society. Marissa plans to pursue a career in advertising account planning. 

Rachel has expressed her affinity toward advertising in numerous ways. She was an Advertising Week contributor who wrote monthly blogs regarding trends from a student perspective. Over the past two summers, she was a Branding & Design Account Management intern at G2 Worldwide in NYC and a Marketing & Promotions intern at CBS Radio 105.9 Fresh FM in Chicago. Currently, she is the president of her Senior Class. Rachel’s career interest lies in the area of advertising account management or strategy.

AWNY was founded in 1912 as the first women's association in the communications industry. The organization now consists of more than 1,500 dynamic, influential women and men representing the advertising, marketing, media, promotion, and public relations fields. AWNY is an active affiliate of the American Advertising Federation. AWNY's mission is to provide a forum for personal and professional growth; to serve as a catalyst for the advancement of women in the communications field; to promote and support philanthropic endeavors through the AWNY Foundation.
