All students are welcome to join our liturgical ministry team!
Share your gifts and talents with our community to enhance and
enrichen the Sunday Mass. We are looking for dedicated and
committed volunteers to serve as Mass Coordinators, Lectors and
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for the upcoming 2018-19
For more information, please email John at firstname.lastname@example.org
Training will take place on one of the first few weekends of the fall semester but students can sign up to be a liturgical minister at any point during the year. After expressing interest, they will be expected to attend a 15-20 minute training session.
Descriptions of the different roles and responsbilities can be found below:
Altar Servers prepare and set-up Muller Chapel prior to Mass and also clean up and store liturgical items after Mass. Altar Servers are especially needed for special masses and holy days, especially Holy Week and Easter. Mass Coordinators serve roughly a half hour before mass and 15 minutes after mass. They must be attentive to detail, reliable and generally able to serve on a bi-weekly basis.
Lectors make God’s presence available to the assembly through the Word which they reverently proclaim. Lectors are scheduled usually for every third week or so. Lectors will be given the readings ahead of time so they practice reading and pray over what the readings are telling them.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion:
EMs help to reverently distribute the Eucharist during Mass. To be an EM you must be fully initiated into the Church (Baptism, Confirmation & Communion).
Communion Minister at Longview:
In addition to the liturgical ministry positions above, we are always looking for students able to serve as communion ministers at Longview, the retirement community located about 5 minutes from Ithaca College. Students who sign up for this position will be paired with another student and travel over to Longview at 10:10 each Sunday morning for their Communion Service at 10:30. Students typically serve at Longview twice each semester.
