Arson Investigation - East Tower

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety is investigating char marks of what appears to be a ‘smiley face” into the ceiling of a stairwell in the East Tower between the first and second floors. The investigation reveals that an unknown person(s) possibly used a lighter or flame to make these marks in the ceiling. The incident appears to have occurred between 9 pm on 04/05/11 and 3 pm on 04/06/11. 

Arson is a dangerous and serious matter. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to immediately contact the Office of Public Safety.



In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], otherwise known as the “Clery Act,” the College is required to provide the campus community timely warning of certain crimes and other conditions that pose a serious or ongoing threat to life and safety. The College meets this notification requirement through the issuance of a “Public Safety Alert” intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and provide cautionary measures for the campus community. Clery crimes are as follows: aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), motor vehicle theft, and hate crimes (in accordance with Clery reporting categories for prejudice).
