Sexual Assault / East Tower

The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is investigating the report of a sexual assault that occurred in the East Tower between 2:00 a.m. and 2:50 a.m. on Monday February 3, 2014. The suspect was described as a white male, non-Hispanic, approximately six feet tall, heavy set, having brown hair, facial hair, and is approximately thirty years old. The victim and suspect were acquainted.

Officers have identified the suspect, who is not affiliated with Ithaca College. He has been restricted from the campus. The criminal investigation is still ongoing. Anyone having information pertaining to this incident is encouraged to contact the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management at 607-274-3333, or to leave an anonymous voice mail message at 607-274-1060.

Members of the campus community are reminded:

  • Do not allow unknown or unauthorized people into secure buildings. Do not let people piggyback or tailgate after you to gain entry to a secure building.
  • Travel and remain with friends or in groups and be cautious leaving with someone you just met.
  • Maintain control of your food and drinks at all times, especially when you are in a public setting.
  • Immediately report any suspicious activity to the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management at 607-274-3333.

In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], otherwise known as the “Clery Act,” the College is required to provide the campus community timely warning of certain crimes and other conditions that pose a serious or ongoing threat to life and safety. The College meets this notification requirement through the issuance of a “Public Safety Alert” intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and provide cautionary measures for the campus community. Clery crimes are as follows: aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), motor vehicle theft, and hate crimes (in accordance with Clery reporting categories for prejudice).
