Two arson cases in the West Tower

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety is investigating two arsons reported in the West Tower.

The first incident occurred on the eighth floor West Tower and was reported on 05/04/11 at 7:30 PM, where an unknown person left two scorch marks on a sprinkler pipe in the hallway adjacent to the elevator.   The time frame for this incident is unknown. 

The second incident occurred on the 2nd floor West Tower between 11:45 PM on 05/05/11 and 2:15 AM on 05/06/11, where an unknown person burned a piece of paper on a bulletin board by room 210.

It is unknown if these two incidents are related.

Arson is a very dangerous and serious matter. Anyone with information pertaining to these incidents is urged to immediately contact the Office of Public Safety.



In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], otherwise known as the “Clery Act,” the College is required to provide the campus community timely warning of certain crimes and other conditions that pose a serious or ongoing threat to life and safety. The College meets this notification requirement through the issuance of a “Public Safety Alert” intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and provide cautionary measures for the campus community. Clery crimes are as follows: aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), motor vehicle theft, and hate crimes (in accordance with Clery reporting categories for prejudice).
