Two Burglaries Reported in Hilliard Hall on July 26, 2013

The Office of Public Safety is investigating the report of two burglaries that have occurred in Hilliard Hall. According to the victims, unknown person/s entered their rooms between July 14th and July 26th and removed money and electronic devices. There was no sign of forced entry into the rooms. The burglaries were discovered and reported on July 26th. It is unknown at this time if the two incidents are related.

Anyone having information pertaining to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management at 607-274-3333, or to leave an anonymous voice mail message at 607-274-1060.


Members of the campus community are reminded to always lock their rooms or apartments and immediately report suspicious activity to the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.


In accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act [20 USC 1092 (f)], otherwise known as the “Clery Act,” the College is required to provide the campus community timely warning of certain crimes and other conditions that pose a serious or ongoing threat to life and safety. The College meets this notification requirement through the issuance of a “Public Safety Alert” intended to aid in the prevention of similar crimes and provide cautionary measures for the campus community. Clery crimes are as follows: aggravated assault, arson, burglary, murder and non-negligent homicide, robbery, sexual offenses (forcible and non-forcible), motor vehicle theft, and hate crimes (in accordance with Clery reporting categories for prejudice).
