Shelley Roden '96

Panelist: Sound Design, Foley, and Automated Dialog Replacement for Film & Television

Shelley Roden is a Northern California–based foley artist working at Skywalker Sound. Using her own footsteps as well as various prop materials collected over her 20-year career, she creates and performs sound effects for films including Incredibles 2 and Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, among many others, and was nominated for a 2019 Academy Award for Best Sound Editing. Given Shelley’s athletic background and her musical theatre experience, she infuses energy, nuance, and musicality into each cue performed on the foley stage. She is inspired by innovators who blur the lines between sound effects and music, and thrives on an improvisational approach to her work. Shelley earned a bachelor of science in cinema and photography from Ithaca College and continues to discover through her experimentation and collaboration with her foley team.
