Hierald's passion for stories hidden out of sight drives him to work collaboratively and creatively to bring those stories to light. The last decade of his experiences includes coordinating multicultural programming at a liberal arts college, co-moderating the young adult council for Religions for Peace, connecting students and sustainable farmers in El Salvador, and from 2013-15 directing the national program for the Lutheran Volunteer Corps, a faith-based service program for young adults of many religious and spiritual backgrounds pursuing justice.
As the Director of Religious and Spiritual Life at Ithaca College, he provides leadership and direction in advancing the vision of Ithaca College's Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, by working in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to promote and support inclusivity and religious diversity.
In July 2020, Hierald stepped into the role of Executive Director for Student Equity and Belonging. In this newly created role Hierald provides strategic leadership, planning, and coordination of student focused diversity, equity and inclusion, programs and services. He provides guidance to the college on the expansion and promotion of inclusive experiences that create a sense of community and belonging for students. He provide oversight to the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, the Center for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Social Change (IDEAS), the Center for LGBTQ Education, Outreach and Services.
Hierald has a Masters of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary and is working on his second Masters of Arts at Luther Seminary. He also serves as the Vicar at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ithaca, NY.
