Luca Maurer

Interim Executive Director for Student Equity and Belonging

Luca Maurer is passionate about the outdoors, ice cream, equity and justice. Home to 150 waterfalls, birthplace of the ice cream sundae, and site of many historic LGBTQ “firsts,” the Ithaca area suits him fine. Like anywhere else, we’ve got problems, and Luca wants to be part of the solutions.

As Director of the Center for LGBTQ Education, Outreach and Services, he provides leadership and direction in advancing Ithaca College's efforts to foster the academic success of LGBTQ students, by working in collaboration with students, alumni, staff, faculty and community partners.

In November 2021, Luca stepped into the role of Interim Executive Director for Student Equity and Belonging. In this role he will oversee the Center for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Social Change (IDEAS) and the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life in addition to continuing to lead the LGBTQ Center. Luca will support equity and diversity initiatives by co-chairing the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action group, as well as serving as the NCAA Diversity and Inclusion Designee. He will also lead an upcoming campus climate survey process, coordinate a current campus climate initiative addressing antisemitism, and provide guidance to the college on the expansion of experiences that create a sense of community and belonging for students.

He serves the profession as a long-time program reviewer for ACPA and NASPA annual conferences and on editorial boards of several journals, and has served the broader Ithaca community on boards including the Multicultural Resource Center, Cinemapolis and the Tompkins County Public Library.
