Sustainable Speakers Series: Green Ergonomics: LEED Buildings and Occupant Health on June 1

The Upstate New York chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will hold another session in its Sustainable Speaker series here on campus on Wednesday, June 1st at 7:30AM (yes, A.M.!) in Room 202 in the Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise. This presentation, "Green Ergonomics: LEED Buildings and Occupant Health", will be delivered by Julie Dorsey from the Occupational Therapy department.

The thoughtful incorporation of ergonomics has been proven to increase employee health and well being and improve productivity.  This leads to the development of a sustainable workforce and economic sustainability of organizations. In 2008, LEED included a point for a “comprehensive ergonomics strategy” under the Innovation in Design category. further recognizing the link between ergonomics and sustainability. The 2012 revisions propose to move the ergonomics credit to the Indoor Environmental Quality category with the possibility of increasing the associated points. This presentation will discuss the concept of green ergonomics and the requirements for achieving the credit for LEED, as well as current and local activities in the area of green ergonomics.

About the Presenter:
Julie Dorsey, MS, OTR/L, CEAS, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Ithaca College in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. She joined the faculty in 2006 and teaches courses related to occupational therapy evaluation and intervention with the adult population and community based emerging practice areas.
