2021 Teacher Training Courses

All unit courses will be held from 9-12 and 1-3 daily. Teacher Trainers may exercise the option of scheduling evening pedagogical sessions to allow for more student institute observation during the day. 

Introductory Course: Every Child Can!

An introduction to Suzuki education, eight hours of class work

ECC serves as the required first course in the Suzuki Association of the Americas Teacher Development Program and provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning. It also includes an introduction to learning styles, a history of the development of Suzuki education, the role of parents, the importance of Suzuki pedagogical training, and an overview of SAA's role of supporting teachers and parents.

The course is instrument nonspecific and is prerequisite to beginning a sequence of Suzuki pedagogy study.

Class will meet on Sunday, June 27, from 1:30 until 5:30 pm and Monday, June 28, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon and 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

Observation hour is Monday, June 28, at 1:30 pm.

General Information and Requirements

Daily sessions include lectures, repertoire study, technical study, observation of and the Suzuki Student Institute, and informal chamber music. The schedule is intensive and may include some evening sessions.

  • All participants are expected to prepare the music in the books to be studied to the point of fluent performance—preferably from memory. Additionally, participants should be conversant with the ideas presented in Suzuki's Nurtured by Love.
  • All participants will be performing in class and are expected to provide their own instruments.
  • Please note that 100% attendance is required.
  • Each Core and Supplemental course has a maximum capacity of 10 participants. Every Child Can! has a limit of 15 participants.
