Annual event will celebrate “The Joy of Cultivating Curiosity.”

Ithaca College will hold its traditional Commencement Eve Concert on Saturday, May 18, in Glazer Arena of the Athletics & Events Center. A fireworks display will follow the 8:30 p.m. performance, which is free and open to the public.

Unlike in past years, there will be no open public dress rehearsal for the concert taking place on Friday night. Members of the community are instead invited to attend the Commencement Eve Concert on Saturday.

The theme of this year’s concert is “The Joy of Cultivating Curiosity.” It will be directed by Mike Titlebaum, director of Jazz Studies and associate professor of music performance in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance.

The concert will feature the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Choir, and Trombone Troupe as well as student vocal and instrumental soloists. Dance students will combine with the Jazz Ensemble for a performance of “On Broadway,” with the program also including works by such composers as George Gershwin, Bedřich Smetana, Billy Strayhorn, and Henri Tomasi.

Ithaca College’s 129th Commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 19, beginning at 10 a.m. inside Glazer Arena. For more information visit ithaca.edu/commencement.
