Web Site Development Caveats

This page describes the nature of the web site that you can expect from the students in COMP 20500 (advanced web programming). The web site will be developed over the course of the fall 2008 semester and will be delivered "as is" at the end of the semester, ie, with no guarantee of functionality. Your project will primarily be an educational experience for the students involved. Students will be graded on how completely they meet your specifications, however, so they will be motivated to do as complete and creative a job as possible.

Students in the course will choose an application based on their interests and the information provided in the application. There is no guarantee that your application will be chosen for development.

If your application is chosen, you will be contacted by a student no later than 1 October 2008. You must be available for consultation throughout the fall semester of 2008 (October 1 through December 12). If your project is chosen, students will set up a meeting time that is mutually convenient.

All projects will be delivered by 12 December 2008. There will be no development, training, or consultation with the developers after that date. All web pages will be delivered "as is", ie, there is no guarantee of functionality. Students will deliver the web site on a CD ROM which you can use to upload the web pages to your web server. If you have an account on www.ithaca.edu at the beginning of the term you may ask students to upload pages to your account.

Projects will only be considered if the organization is officially associated with Ithaca College or if you are a not-for-profit organization located in Ithaca and are willing to meet with a student group once a week on the Ithaca College campus.

Note that you must already have access to a web server. This project will not supply access to a web server and will not set up a web server or web account for you. You must already have an account on a web server. For example, people working at Ithaca College should already have an account on www.ithaca.edu and other orgnaizations must have internet access through either their organization's network services or through their internet service provider. Ithaca College organizations should contact Information Technology Services (ITS, http://www.ithaca.edu/computing/fs_index.htm) to set up an account on www.ithaca.edu.

Questions about what to expect from your project should be addressed to John Barr, Ithaca College.
