Trade Journal Article Review Assignment

The purpose of this assignment is to expose you to a some of the trade journals available in mass media fields. You will need to use these journals for projects in other classes and to stay current with the news in your field (for internship interviews, career planning, etc.)

  1. Choose two trade journals from this list of mass media related trade journals.
  2. Evaluate and compare the journals as an information source by answering these questions:
    1. Who publishes the journal - is it a trade organization, a media company, individuals, can't tell?
    2. How often is the information updated online? How often does the print version come out?
    3. How qualified are the authors? Are their biographies? Do they mention their experience/qualifications in the articles?
    4. Do they provide email newsletters? If so - does the website give you any information about their content or frequency?
    5. What portion of each magazine looks most useful to you and why?
