Ithaca College's School of Health Science and Human Performance and the School of Music have been closely involved in developing many aspects of performing arts medicine.

The Health and Performance Institute for Musicians is held at Ithaca College. Musicians and health care providers from around the country attend lectures and workshops concerning the human body's function and learn about prevention of music-related injuries. This summer's institute will be held on June 16-18, 2006, titled, The Healthy Musician Level I. Level II will be held on June 19-20, 2006. Level II is designed for those individuals who have attended Level I, though anyone may attend. Click on the above institute for a description. Most individuals attend both levels back to back.

An on campus Ithaca College Physical Therapy Clinic is involved in the daily evaluation and treatment of artists with performance related injuries. This includes both musicians and dancers. Weekly screening clinics are held in order to help direct performers to appropriate health care providers.

It is hoped that this page will serve as a performing arts medicine newsletter providing information to both the performer and health practitioner. A topics of interest, discussing performance-related injuries will be presented and added to regularly. Please contact me if you have an interesting topic to contribute.
