Once Upon a Time (Yong Ki Jeong, Korea, 2008; 110 min). With the Japanese occupation, 1940s Seoul is filled with disorder and confusion. Koreans have to adopt a Japanese name simply to survive. Ever since the Japanese invasion, they have been madly on the search for “The Light of the East’, the symbol of Shilla’s 1000 year reign placed on the forehead of the Buddha statue in Seokguram. After several years of endless searching, Japanese military commanders succeeds in finding ‘The Light of the East’ and holds a send-off party for the diamond before it will be spirited off to Japan.
