|The Magic of Rain|
|A successful rainwater conservation project in Pakistan.|
The Magic of Rain (Aisha Akram, Pakistan, 2012; 15 min.) The story of promotion, implementation and success of a pilot, rainwater- conservation project in the earthquake struck area, where even in the dire circumstances, the emergency was converted into an opportunity. ERRA (The Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority) was immediately established after the earthquake of 2005 to rebuild the affected areas. The first and foremost need of that time was to provide water to the locals. Since it was not possible to build the new water supply mechanisms immediately, an alternative was urgently needed. Realizing the potential of rainwater, the ERRA team proposed the use of rainwater harvesting for the purpose. Since it was a general perception that the rainwater is not clean water, it was very difficult to convince both the donors and the communities to use the rainwater for their needs. The old methods of water provision are also shown in the documentary.
