Scholarship Name Description
Reginald L. Allen '81 Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding junior or senior voice major with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to an African American, Latino, Asian American, or Native American (ALANA) student.
Ronald E. Batson '36 Scholarship Awarded to students in the School of Music who have chosen to major in voice. Established through a generous bequest from Ronald E. Batson, who studied voice at Ithaca College, earning a degree in music education, then spent his career as a public school music teacher.
Alice Flaum Berman '71 Summer Music Festival Scholarship Awarded to juniors and/or seniors with demonstrated financial need who wish to participate in recognized summer music festivals.
Celia Slocum Blair '27 Scholarship Awarded to students entering their senior year. The recipients are recommended by the dean of the School of Music and the faculty of the Department of Music Education. Recipients must be pursuing a major in vocal or instrumental music education. Preference is given to members of the Lambda chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon who plan to teach music in public schools. Established in memory of Celia Slocum Blair, coordinator of music education at Ithaca College.
Robert S. Boothroyd Sr. '24 Scholarship Awarded to deserving students who are making outstanding contributions to the School of Music. Established by Robert S. Boothroyd.
Winifred Ruland Bouck '35 Scholarship Awarded to a female senior in the School of Music who is recognized by the faculty for her special musical ability and who is a resident of New York State. Preference is given to students who come from Schoharie County, New York. The scholarship may be awarded to more than one student at a time. Established in memory of Winifred Ruland Bouck by her family.
Les Brown '29 Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding junior instrumentalist in the School of Music. Established by Les Brown.
Charlotte Burnett Burnside '47 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior music education major who is in good academic standing and has demonstrated financial need. Established by the family and friends of Charlotte Burnett Burnside in her memory.
Leonard and Ione Buyse Scholarship Awarded to a music major who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and performance. Established to honor Leonard Buyse, a former Ithaca public schools administrator, and his wife, Ione, for their half century of dedication to the arts in Ithaca.
Patrick Conway Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a deserving student in the School of Music. Established in memory of band leader Patrick Conway, who founded the Conway Military Band School, which was affiliated with the Ithaca Conservatory of Music.
George King Driscoll '32 Scholarship Awarded to music students, with preference given to those studying piano. Established by a bequest from Professor George King Driscoll, a member of the piano faculty from 1936 until his retirement in 1977.
Margery A. DuBois '46 Scholarship Awarded to a student in the School of Music with demonstrated financial need. Established in memory of Margery A. DuBois by her family.
W. Grant Egbert Music Scholarship Awarded to a student who demonstrates excellence in music, scholarship, and service. Established to honor W. Grant Egbert, the founder of Ithaca College.
Edwin R. Erickson '25 Music Scholarship Awarded to a deserving student in the School of Music. Established by Edwin R. Erickson.
Elenita M. Benjamin Fitch '28 Scholarship Awarded to a student in the School of Music who is a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Lambda chapter. Established by a bequest from Elenita M. Benjamin Fitch.
Charlotte C. '31 and James M. Fitzgerald Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student in the School of Music. Established in memory of Charlotte Fitzgerald and her husband, James.
Clinton B. Ford Scholarship Awarded to talented string instrumentalists in the School of Music. Established by the late Clinton B. Ford, a trustee of the College.
Florence Marro Gallagher Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a deserving and committed student in the School of Music or in one of the following majors: acting, art, art education, art history, drama, musical theatre, theatre arts management, or theatrical production arts. The student must have demonstrated financial need. Established in memory of Florence Marro Gallagher by her son, John E. Gallagher Jr. '69.
Gustave Haenschen and Gretchen Haller '24 Music Scholarship Awarded to a deserving student with demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to a student with an interest in vocal performance. Established through the bequest of Gretchen Haller and by family and friends of the late Gustave Haenschen.
Shirley and Chas Hockett Music Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student in the School of Music who is a composition major. Established in memory of Shirley and Chas Hockett by their family and friends.
Kathleen Kimple Houghton '24 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to outstanding violin students who are juniors or seniors, who have demonstrated excellence in performance, and who have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
Col. George S. Howard '25 Music Scholarship Awarded to qualified students of wind instruments. Established through a generous bequest from George S. Howard, a graduate of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music who was commander in chief and conductor of the Air Force Band and Symphony Orchestra.
Eleanor P. Johnson Music Scholarship Awarded to deserving music students. Established by a bequest from Eleanor P. Johnson, a friend of the College.
Leo A. and Frances MacArthur '25 Keilocker Scholarship Awarded to outstanding instrumentalists who study violin, viola, or cello. Made possible by an endowment established by a bequest from Leo A. and Frances Anne MacArthur Keilocker, both alumni of the School of Music.
Philip J. Lang '33 Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding music school student. Preference is given to students studying composition. Established in memory of Philip J. Lang, who contributed to America's musical heritage as a musician, teacher, composer, and orchestrator.
Laub Family Scholarship Awarded, upon recommendation of the dean, to a sophomore, junior, or senior in the School of Music who demonstrates outstanding performance ability, solid academic achievement, and financial need. Made possible by gifts from the family and friends of Lydia and David Laub. David J. Laub was a member of the College's board of trustees from 1965 to 1982 and served as its chairman for six years.
Lynn Love Liepertz '70 Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student, majoring either in business or in music, who has demonstrated financial need.
Kathryn A. C. Martin '19 Music Scholarship Awarded to deserving students in the School of Music. Preference is given to students who are members of Sigma Alpha Iota. Established by Kathryn A. C. Martin.
Craig McHenry '30 Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student in the School of Music. Made possible by gifts from the friends and colleagues of Craig McHenry, dean of the School of Music for many years. Financial need is not required.
Herbert C. Mueller Memorial Scholarship Awarded to worthy students in the School of Music who major in trumpet. Established in memory of Professor Herbert C. Mueller, who taught trumpet for 16 years at Ithaca College. Funding is made possible through gifts from his family and friends.
Gustav A. and Oliva Nelson Memorial Emergency Fund Provides scholars with emergency money. Preference is given to students in the School of Music or the School of Humanities and Sciences who are majoring in piano performance, English, drama, or communication studies and/or who are members of the Oracle Society. The fund provides students with quick access to cash for emergencies such as a personal or family health crisis, or the need to travel due to a family emergency or a funeral. Funds may be used for tuition when family circumstances change drastically during the academic year. Named for Gustav A. Nelson and his wife, Olivia.
Arthur Ostrander Endowed Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in music who has demonstrated financial need. Established in May 2008 on the occasion of Dean Ostrander's retirement from the School of Music.
David Barnes Perry Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding music student. Established by Dorothy P. Livermore '24 in memory of her father.
Roberta Peters Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding vocal student in the School of Music. Made possible by gifts from Roberta Peters, an honorary trustee of the College.
Brigid A. Porter '93 Scholarship Awarded to music education or performance/music education majors who have completed their freshman year with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to students who are orientation leaders or resident assistants. Established by the family and friends of Brigid A. Porter in her memory.
Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award Awarded to the most outstanding junior music student, based on scholarship and talent. The recipient is named the Presser scholar.
Ruth Blackman Rodgers '11 Scholarship Awarded to talented students in their third or fourth year in the School of Music. Established through a bequest of Ruth Blackman Rodgers.
Susan Scanlon '71 Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a student in the School of Music who has demonstrated financial need.
Josephine Watson Southwick Music Scholarship Awarded to a junior majoring in music education. Established in memory of Josephine Watson Southwick by her son.
Burton Stanley '35, M.S. '52, Endowed Scholarship Awarded to a music performance student from New York State with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrated financial need.
Henry B. Stark Scholarship for Music Awarded to outstanding students majoring in music who have demonstrated financial need.
Sally Jane Ketcham Tanzer '70 Music Scholarship Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in music who has demonstrated financial need.
Ruth Butts Tapke '17 Scholarship Awarded to musically talented students from rural New York so that Ithaca College might expand their horizons as it did Ruth Butts Tapke's. Established in her memory.
Iola Angood Taylor '32 Scholarship Awarded to deserving students from public school music programs. Preference is given to students residing in the Hornell-Canisteo, New York, area. Established by a bequest from Iola Angood Taylor.
Allan H. Treman Music Scholarship Awarded to students who have made an outstanding contribution to the School of Music. Established by a bequest from the late Allan H. Treman.
Lillian Speakman Vail '21 Scholarship Awarded to juniors and seniors with established records of academic achievement and community service. Preference is given to students in music, theatre arts, or communication studies. Established by the family and friends of Lillian Speakman Vail to honor her lifelong friendship with, service to, and support of Ithaca College.
Clarence Raymond Warrington Organ Scholarship Awarded to a student or students who are enrolled in a program leading to a degree in organ performance and who have demonstrated financial need. If no organ major is eligible, the scholarship may be awarded to a keyboard major with demonstrated financial need, including an incoming student. The scholarship is renewable for four years. The fund was established in 2009 with a generous bequest from the estate of Clarence Raymond Warrington.
James J. Whalen Young Artist Award Awarded to the entering freshman music major with the highest combined academic and musical rating. This scholarship is renewed automatically for up to a total of nine semesters (summer sessions excluded) as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and remains enrolled full-time and in good standing as a music major at Ithaca College. Financial need is not required. Established by the Fred L. Emerson Foundation to honor James J. Whalen, Ithaca College's sixth president, for his 22 years of distinguished leadership of the College and for his steadfast dedication to its students.
Carl H. Wickstrom Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a student in the School of Music who excels in both woodwind musical performance and in preparing to be a music educator. Established in memory of Professor Emeritus Carl H. Wickstrom '38, School of Music.
