Purpose of the I-9 form is to document that each new employee (both citizen and noncitizen) hired after November 6, 1986 is authorized to work in the United States. All employees hired after this date must complete Form I-9. This form must be completed no later than the time of hire, which is no later than the beginning of employment.

Refer to the I-9 Acceptable Documents list to provide proof of identity and employment eligibility. A new employee must provide either one document from list A or one each from lists B and C. Documents must be originals or certified copies as specified.
All documents must be unexpired.
