The Partnership in Teaching is a program that brings Ithaca College faculty, and occasionally staff and students, into local schools for presentations and special events that benefit the College and the community. This program is endowed by the Tompkins County Trust Company and has been operating for over ten years.
For local school teachers, the Partnership in Teaching program offers access to a great community resource - the knowledge and expertise of Ithaca College faculty. A faculty presentation - whether a one-time classroom visit or part of a special event such as a staff development seminar or a student assembly - can enliven class time, pique students' interest, and enhance teaching skills.
The Ithaca College faculty who participate in this program see it as a way to see what's going on in public schools and connect with a generation that will soon become college students. They also see it as a wonderful way to give something back to the community. The program is especially valuable for faculty who are involved in teacher education. All reasonable costs are covered by the program, and the program is flexible as well. Presentations described in the partnership booklet are simply suggestions and can usually be modified to meet the needs of area teachers.
The Partnership also administers modest grants to faculty teams from Ithaca College and public schools for materials to support their study of a particular topic. These Clynes Grants are awarded each year and the maximum amount of an individual grant is $500.00 to cover the cost of books, tapes, slides, software and photocopies.
