Physics professor Luke Keller will give an update on NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) and describe the project, a modified 747 aircraft with a 3-meter diameter telescope mounted in its fuselage. Keller is a co-investigator on a team of scientists and engineers who have designed and built a sensitive infrared camera for the observatory. The team will use their camera to make the first astronomical observations from SOFIA later this year and in early 2010.
