Brian Prather is the Assistant Professor of Scenic Design for the B.F.A. program in Theatrical Production Arts.  Courses taught include Introduction to Design, Hand Drafting, Design Presentation Techniques, Set Design and Advanced Set Design.  Brian also mentors student designers in Advanced and Senior Design Projects as well as individual Theatre Projects and Independent Study Projects. 

As well as teaching, Brian maintains a professional freelance career.  Design work in NYC includes premiere productions of Fugitive Songs with Dreamlight Productions, Fair Game with Genesius Theatre Group, as well as productions with the New York Musical Festival, NYU’s department of Dramatic Writing, BeaconNY, and the Drama League/Vital Theatre.  Internationally: the world premiere of the musical Minyeo-neun Goerowo with Shownote in Seoul, South Korea.  Regionally: productions with Barrington Stage Company (Pittsfield, MA; designer for main-stage productions as well as resident designer for the New Musical Theatre Lab led by Julianne Boyd and William Finn), TheaterWorks and the Hartt School (Hartford, CT), The Yale Dramatic Association (New Haven, CT), Emerson Stage and Boston Playwrights Theatre (Boston, MA), Stageworks: Hudson (Hudson, NY), and The Kitchen Theatre (Ithaca, NY).  Brian was also the Production Designer for the short film Speck’s Last.

Brian received his B.A. in Theatre from Maryville College and his M.F.A. in Design from Brandeis University.  He is a member of United Scenic Artists Local 829.
