C.S. Giscombe, November 2013
Giscombe is the author of several books of poetry including Prairie Style, Two Sections from Practical Geography, Giscome Road, Here, At Large and Postcards. A book of essays on poetry and other cultural topics titled Back Burner, will be published in 2013. Henry Louis Gates called Giscombe a “major figure in contemporary African American letters.” Giscombe received the 2010 Stephen Henderson Award in Poetry from the African American Literature and Culture Society and has been awarded fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Fund for Poetry. Prairie Style was awarded an American Book Award by the Before Columbus Foundation and Giscome Road won the Carl Sandburg Prize from the Chicago Public Library. He is a member of the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley.
