Exploratory Program

Making the Choice

Some of your fellow exploratory students may declare a major after one or two semesters. Others may wait until their sophomore year to select a specific academic area in the School of Humanities and Sciences, or in one of the professional schools. The list of academic programs you and your peers choose is as diverse as your interests: writing, politics, applied psychology, mathematics, environmental studies, exercise science, television-radio, and business administration are just a handful of majors selected in recent years.

About three-fifths of all exploratory students stay within the School of Humanities and Sciences, and most others choose majors in the Park School of Communications, the School of Business, or the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. A smaller number transfer to programs in the School of Music or the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies.

You'll have plenty of assistance as you choose your field of study and embark on the job search. The Office of Career Services, in collaboration with the Exploratory Program director, offers a wide range of workshops, activities, and transitional sessions specifically tailored to the needs of exploratory students.
