Alex Krasser '09 is not president; he just plays one on stage.
An acting major while at IC, Krasser starred in several main stage productions and received the Dean's Award in Fine Arts. Now he's playing former Bill Clinton in the short-length opera Billy Blythe.
The opera, based on Clinton's popular 2004 memoir, My Life, was premiered by the Metropolis Opera Project at the Medicine Show Theatre in New York City.
Billy Blythe, the title of which makes use of Clinton's birth name (he changed it at age 16), is set in the 1950s Arkansas and chronicles the adolescence of the former president.
Krasser says the overall response to the production has been positive. "I think people walked away with a deeper appreciation for the man behind the headlines – where he came from and what he was fighting for from the beginning."
