At the New York State Therapeutic Recreation Association (NYSTRA) conference, Janice Elich Monroe and therapeutic recreation major Hannah Louis presented a session titled, "Utilizing Community Projects as a Recreational Therapy Intervention." Deborah Silver '04 presented on "Stress Management: The Benefits of Involvement and Breath."

Silver and Gillian Mason '06 serve as members of NYSTRA's board of directors. Bethany Humphrey '04 served on the social committee for this conference, which was held March 28-31 in Saratoga Springs.

Margaret Arnold, chair of the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, was an invited speaker for the California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training conference in Santa Clara, California.

Chris Pelchat has published a book chapter with University of Idaho professor Mike Kinziger.

Three students and one alumna of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Department's outdoor adventure leadership program received scholarships at the National Conference of Outdoor Leadership.

Lauren Barnes, an outdoor adventure leadership major in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, won the Wilderness Education Association Student Leader Award.
