Meet the Current Students

Erin James

I did my under grad at IC and graduated in 2005. My major was Community Health Education with a concentration in Nutrition Promotion. It took me a few majors before I settled on Community Health. I had also been Health Sciences, and Health Policy Studies. Luckily, they were all closely related and I was still able to get my degree in 4 years. I am the GA for the nutrition professor, Julia Lapp. Last semester I co-chaired with another GA a Sustainability and Wellness Fair on campus. I also did work for the Ithaca Health Alliance through my assistantship, mostly just working on their newsletter that is sent out around town. This semester I am helping Julia do research on diabetes. I am also doing a lot at the BOCES downtown- interviewing them and getting baseline data on their health status with other GA's. I already knew all of the professors and got along with them all very well. I felt that I had gotten a really great education here as an undergraduate and wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to learn more from the same professors. As far as IC goes- I think it is a good size for a college to be. We're not too small, but still small enough that we're not just a number. Professors still know who we are. The Ithaca area in general is nice mostly because of the lake and gorges. It brings a lot of natural beauty to the area. Our Research Methods class last semester was a course that I really enjoyed. The word research had always scared me, but through that course I discovered that I really like research and plan to pursue a more research based career because of it.
