Mission Statement

The Department of Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services educates future professionals to achieve excellence in the delivery of services within the disciplines of leisure services and therapeutic recreation. We are committed to developing partnerships with community agencies that provide experiential and interdisciplinary learning opportunities that nurture an awareness of the importance of leisure and its contribution to quality of life within the context of the diverse perspectives of a global society.

Students receive opportunities to maximize their personal and professional potential through activities that build character and develop skills related to critical thinking, advocacy, citizenship, and ethical decision-making. We value a sense of community within the department and seek to develop healthy interpersonal relationships that appreciate, acknowledge, and nurture all members of the department. We engage in scholarship and service and promote student involvement in these activities by encouraging professional involvement, certification, community service, and lifelong learning.
