Ying Quartet Continues College Concert Season |
||
The Ying Quartet, one of the best-known and highly regarded young ensembles on the American music scene, will perform in a Tuesday, October 28, concert at Ithaca College. Scheduled for 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall Auditorium, the concert is the latest installment in a concert series entitled "It's All Relative." In a recent review, the New York Times said the quartet "produces a dark and sumptuous sound and moves as one. Those qualities made the quartet's concert both riveting and uplifting."
The quartet won the International Cleveland Quartet Competition in 1989, made its New York debut in 1991 at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, began to tour professionally in 1992, and won the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 1993. The quartet's active touring schedule has included appearances in major cities across North America and concerts abroad in Japan, Germany, England, Sweden, Austria, Estonia, and Taiwan. The Yings have spent summers in residence at Tanglewood, Aspen, and Interlochen, and have participated in numerous other festivals. The quartet will feature its "autobiography" program at the Ithaca College concert, a program including the works of Beethoven, Janácek, and Smetana. A free pre-concert lecture by Professor Mark Radice will begin at 7:30 p.m. in room 201, Ford Hall. Tickets are $8 for children, senior citizens, and Ithaca College students; $14 for Ithaca College alumni, Friends of Ithaca College, faculty, staff, administrators, and other students; and $16 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased at the Ticket Center at Clinton House and Rebop Records, Tapes, and Compact Discs, Collegetown. For more information call the School of Music at 274-3171. |
