Do It at the Handwerker

False/Right, Right/FalseVisitors to the Handwerker Gallery exhibit Do It! follow instructions for False/Right, Right/False (left), a conceptual art installation based on the instructions of Austrian artist Edwin Wurm. The display is one of about 30 installations students in the Department of Art History's Contemporary Art class created by following the directions of world-renowned artists. Referred to as an exhibition in progress, Do It! is based on the idea of using a museum as a performance site rather than a permanent place of display. It is less concerned with images and reproductions than with human interpretation. The idea is to interpret the instructions as a musician would interpret a musical score.

Wish PieceAlso on display is Wish Piece (right), which was created by following Yoko Ono's instructions to write down a wish on a piece of paper, tie it around the branches of a wish tree, and keep wishing until the branches are full. Do It! will remain in the Handwerker Gallery until December 14.
