Club Highlights

The Southern Tier Alumni Club and Friends of Ithaca College annual dinner and theater event sold out for the third consecutive year. This year’s sizzling production of The Pajama Game followed a spectacular dinner in the Emerson Suites of Phillips Hall. The students of IC once again showed our local alumni and friends exceptional talent and enthusiasm for classic musicals.

Congratulations to the Boston Alumni Club! After being relatively quiet for the last couple of years, the club held a social at the North East Brewing Company this past November. Nearly 100 alumni participated; special guest was alumni relations director Steve Kimmons ’78.

On November 28, 1996, 10 United Kingdom alumni enjoyed a traditional American Thanksgiving meal hosted by the students of the Ithaca College London Center. We are hoping to see some additional activities this year to help the London Center celebrate its 25th anniversary!

The Philadelphia Alumni Club held a holiday luncheon at the Philly-based Cigna Corporation offices. Their host, Mike Slepian ’71, also arranged for a private tour of the Cigna Museum, home of the largest corporate museum collections, featuring marine art, firefighting memorabilia, and historic documents dating back to the founding of the CIGNA companies, in 1792 at Independence Hall.

Nearly 50 members of the Metro New York Alumni Club celebrated the holidays at O’Flaherty’s. All participants enjoyed the all-you-could-eat buffet and open bar, which helped kick
off the season!

The Southern California Alumni Club and Michele Urie ’94 hosted a gathering at the Santa Monica Museum of Art with special guests President James J. Whalen and Vice President Bonnie Gordon ’77 in January. Forty alumni enjoyed the unique opportunity to privately view an architectural exhibit displaying plans for the museum’s upcoming new location and samples of favored artworks.

Network ’97 was a huge success! Philadelphia, National Capital, Metro New York, Boston, Rochester, Buffalo, and Southern Tier Alumni Clubs hosted current students and regional alumni at networking receptions during the months of January and February. With over 650 alumni and current students joining alumni relations and career planning and placement professionals, this continues to be the most popular and successful program of the year!

Professional Alumni on the Move

Several alumni participated in a reception for Ithaca College graduates attending the mid-Atlantic regional chapter of the American College Sports Medicine annual conference in November. Assistant dean John Bonaguro and faculty members Gary Sforzo, Betsy Keller, Janet Wigglesworth, Tom Swensen, John Sigg, Jeffrey Ives, and Frank Micale enjoyed meeting with their former students during the professional conference held at Mountain Laurel Resort Hotel and Golf Club in White Haven, Pennsylvania.

MSNBC president Martin J. Yudkowitz addressed 75 Ithaca College Metro New York Business and Communication Network alumni in mid-November, providing information on the cutting-edge technology of interactive media. Special guests included Vice President Gordon; Thomas Bohn, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications; and William Scoones, acting dean of the business school.

On November 22, 1996, nearly 50 Ithaca College graduates attending the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance annual conference participated in a reception at the Melville Marriot.

Happy 75th anniversary! On November 23, 1996, an anniversary bash was held for alumni attending the American Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology national conference in Seattle. Special guests included Steve Kimmons ’78, director of alumni relations, and Richard Schissel, chair of the speech-path department.

A pleasant surprise for the nearly 100 IC grads attending the December 1996 New York State School Music Association conference: President Whalen and Vice President Gordon joined Art Ostrander, dean of the Ithaca College School of Music, and many music school faculty at the annual reception.
