Butterfield Book Debuts
Lois Butterfield, widow of beloved longtime Ithaca College football coach Jim Butterfield, has published a book about her late husband, Wasn't That Fun: Jim Butterfield -- A Coaching Life. "For those of you who are familiar with the man," she says, "I hope this book will stir some memories. For others, this is a simple story of a small-college coach and his impact on those he coached and the game they played." That impact was huge; Butterfield led the Bombers to three NCAA Division III championships and 206 victories in his 27 years with the team.
In the book jacket notes, the author says that she was inspired to write about her husband's legendary career by conversations she had with his many players, who kept in touch even after the coach had retired. "For me," she writes, "this adventure [of writing the memoir] helped me to remember him the way he was." She hopes the book will help former players, friends, and alumni share the memories. Wasn't That Fun, which includes more than 30 photos, is available online via www.thebutterfieldbook.com.
