Academics Look to the Caribbean
The Caribbean Sea and its peoples were the subject of a fall film and lecture series sponsored by the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies, "The Caribbean: Migration and Race." Viranjini Munasinghe of Cornell University spoke on East Indians and Creolization, and New School University's Elaine Savory spoke on "Tidalectics: A Model for the Interrelation of the U.S. and the Anglophone Caribbean in Literature." Ruben Silié Valdez, secretary general of the Association of Caribbean States, discussed migration in the Caribbean, comparing the experience of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Trinidad.
